Zach Snyder casts his Superman

We’ve been trying to guess who’ll be the next Clark Kent/Superman for months now. Well, the choice has been made and the new Superman is… some guy named Henry Cavill?

OK, that’s probably not fair. He’s been in a few different things, including a larger role on The Tudors. The thing is, I haven’t seen him in anything and the picture I found of him was this:

I’m sure some of it is just this particular photo, but those sleepytime eyes don’t make me very confident. Now, compare this to my suggestion for the role, Jon Hamm:

AMC

They wouldn’t even need to hire a wardrobe designer, Hamm could just steal his suits from the Mad Men set! Granted, in practically every interview I’ve seen with Hamm being asked about the Superman rumors, he’s laughed it off by saying he’s too old. I still would have loved to see him play the man of steel.

OK, since the main man is decided, it’s time to start guessing on the supporting cast. For Lois, I’m thinking Ellen Page, but really I’ll just be glad if they get someone who doesn’t look like a twig. For Jimmy Olsen, my first instinct was Jesse Eisenberg, but he might be a little too old for the role. I could also see Kevin McHale as the spunky photographer and he’s closer to the right age. As for Perry White, I would love to see Ed Asner or maybe even Dustin Hoffman if he puts on a few pounds.

As for Luthor… well, who knows if we’re even going to have the bald billionaire as the villain? If there is a Luthor, all bets are off because the character can go so many different ways. Considering Hamm has already played Lex, maybe they’ll bring him in to be the bad guy!

I hope they don't do another one with Lex Luthor as the main baddie…

Nick, I think AtomWise just sassed you. 🙂

But let's face it, while Batman has plenty of strong, interesting villains, Superman doesn't have many memorable villains.
