First Look at the Toy Story Shorts

Written by Katie Schenkel
Movie News Barbie and Ken, Cars, Cars 2, John Lasseter, Muppets, news, Pixar, the new muppet movie, the Toy Story shorts attached to Cars 2 and Muppet movie, Toy Story, Toy Story 3, Toy Story Shorts 3 Comments

Last summer, Toy Story 3 came into our lives and knocked out the original Toy Story off the #1 spot on my Pixar list. As Buzz and Jessie closed out the film with a dance of pure joy, my very first thought was, “There better not be a 4th film, but so help me God, there better be a short!” I’m glad they didn’t focus too much on the newer toys from Bonnie’s room, but the epilogue in the credits made me wish I could see more of them because they meshed so well with Andy’s toys! I even mentioned my demand for a Toy Story short in my review of the film. I found out this morning that we’re not getting a short… we’re getting two shorts. Thank you, John Lasseter and company! You continue to make me so very happy.

So, the first short is going to be before Cars 2. I’m… not excited about this movie. I’m not counting it down for the out just yet, but one of the best parts of the original Cars is Paul Newman. Since he passed away not long after that film was released, this means one of the best characters is just gone (how does a car die in this universe, anyway?). The other thing I really loved about it was how down to earth the actual story was… I liked the town and that the characters loved being a part of that community. Cars 2 is going to be about Larry the Cable Guy’s character being a spy. Yeah, I’m hesitant in going to see this in theaters. Still, if the short is going to be attached to it, I might have to catch a matinee.

So, this first short is about the gang making a pretend cruise vacation for Barbie and Ken. I know, I know, this could be bad, but I think they’re going to make this work. I’m especially thrilled to see the Bonnie toys and Andy toys mixes together. I see this as a fun, short story that just lets the characters be themselves without the normal dramatic story arc from the Toy Story films. If it’s anything like the epilogue, I will be thrilled.

We don’t know what the other short is going to be about, but it’s going to be attached to the new Muppets movie. See, that’s a movie I would see, regardless of what comes before it. When we find out more about the film, I’ll discuss it more, but I love the Muppets and can’t wait to find out more. The short being added to it just makes it that much better. I’m also just so happy we’re getting a second short.

Cars 2 is coming out June 24th. The new Muppet movie is coming out November 23rd.

    Toy Story Shorts: Yes!

    Cars 2: Maybe…maybe not!

    Muppets Movie: Heck yes!

I'm excited to see where things lead with the shorts. Their previous work with shorts has consistently proved very entertaining!

Sorry to burst the bubble, but the actor who played Heimlich died some years ago. He did a few voices in different Pixar films and they dedicated the original Cars to him. It might not stop Pixar from doing a New Bug's Life, with how they recast-ed for a death in Toy Story 3, but it would still be rough to find the right person. I really want The Incredibles 2 first though.
