I know not everyone feels this way, but I am pretty damn excited about The Dark Knight returns. Some of this has to do with being utterly blown away by Arkham City and just ready to see the Caped Crusader back on the big screen, but my anticipation also comes from how well Christopher Nolan has handled this character and his story. You might not like every choice he’s made, but he has most definitely treated the Batman mythos with the upmost respect, and you have to respect Nolan for that.
You’ll also remember that The Dark Knight featured some very clever viral marketing in the months before the movie premiered, including having Joker clues featured throughout different cities in America. For the third and final film of the series, they’re doing something a little different … they want to have fans in the soundtrack.
That’s right, Hans Zimmer is creating the soundtrack and needs a mob chanting the phrase, “Des-shay, des-shay, bah-sah-rah, bah-sah-rah!” and has sent an open invitation. The idea is that the soundtrack will include the voices of thousands and thousands of fans. This is such a cool idea and I jumped on the invitation immediately, recording and sending my submission this weekend.
Now, since we haven’t been given too many clues on the movie so far, I do have to wonder what clues the chant gives us. My first response was it represents Bane’s many followers. Since there have also been rumors of Ra’s Al Ghul returning, that could be another answer. Either way, it will be amazing to hear this song in the film and know how the Zimmer brought the fans into the film-making process.
If you’re interested in being a part of the chant (and why wouldn’t you?), just go to UJAM’s Dark Knight Rises page and follow the instructions.
