I have talked about Alice in Wonderland a couple different times now. While I have been hesitant about the upcoming movie, there are a few clips that were released recently that made me at least hopeful for the film. My favorite is with Alice and the Cheshire Cat. I might still have some anticipations about the plot, but the characters aren’t too far off. There’s something really fantastic about the Cheshire Cat character, perhaps because he never lies, but is forever vague in the truth. In college, I wrote a paper explaining, among other things, how the Cheshire Cat is to Alice as Virgil is to Dante: a guide through a mystical land who belongs to that world while still connecting to the protagonist the best.
I’m still not totally convinced, but I think at this point I might just have to wait for the film to actually come out so I can find out once and for all if it’s worth watching. But Stephen Fry playing the cat with the toothy smile can’t hurt.
This movie looks a bit dubious…not really sure if it's for me.
