Well, here’s a movie series I never thought would start up again, but according to Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg, Disney is in talks to make a third Three Men movie.
The first film (made back in 1987) tells the story of three bachelor roommates (played by Selleck, Guttenberg and Ted Danson) who find a baby girl on their doorstep, a product of a one night stand involving Danson’s character. The majority of the film is about how they deal with the new addition and, to use the old adage, “hilarity ensues”. In the 1990 sequel, the men are all living (platonically, for the record) with the mother as well as the little girl. All goes well until the mother wants to marry and one of the men (I’ll let you find out which one) realizes he’s in love with her. So, yeah, maybe jumped the shark a little. Apparently Disney is looking for the third film to be about the daughter’s wedding.
The thing is, I actually really enjoyed these movies as a kid, especially the 2nd one. The chemistry is good between the three main actors, the last 30 minutes of the sequel were really entertaining and it featured Fiona Shaw, who would go on to play the nasty Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter Series. There is a slim chance the 2nd sequel could actually be enjoyable, if made the right way. If it is going to be made, I’m pushing for them to use the same actress from the sequel to play the daughter.
Of course, it could all be a plot by the Stonecutters. That and holding back the electric car…
I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd movie as well. It's actually a family favorite. We tend to hold our teacups like Ted Danson did every time we go to a Chinese restaurant, just for a quick laugh.
I'm curious to see how well they do with continuity…
