Last post, I mentioned my hesitation for Cars 2. Longtime readers might recall that I didn’t hate the original Cars… I even put it above A Bug’s Life. Like I’ve said before, the best part of the movie was the beautiful, simple setting of the American landscape and the sense of community that’s woven through the film. Of course, the sequel has Mater becoming a super-spy, he and Lightening are traveling across Europe and apparently the rest of the characters won’t be around. I haven’t disliked the Mater shorts Pixar has done, but probably because they are short and sweet. So, I’m not super excited.
Watch the trailer:
The oil/poop joke doesn’t make me feel any more confident about this movie. Pixar hasn’t made a bad film yet, so I really want this to work. I do. I just doubt it’s going to be great, but I’ll be really sad if it is flat-out bad.
I think Pixar woke up one morning and said, "Let's imitate Dreamworks today."
What made Cars for me was the flashy racing world vs. the laidback Route 66.
I too am on the fence.
