Recently, I went to see the new movie Paul. I’m still working on the review, but there was a trailer that came up before the film that I wanted to share. That would be the trailer for Dylan Dog. Take a look:
There are a couple things that spark my interest in the movie, and they’re both about the cast. First off, I like Brandon Routh a lot – he was awesome in Scott Pilgrim, plus he really doesn’t get enough credit for his work in Superman Returns. It might have been a flawed film, but he was cast well as Clark/the Man of Steel. I’m excited to see him in an action, leading man role again.
The other cast member I’m interested is Sam Huntington, who actually played Jimmy Olson in Superman Returns. But he’s also in the US version of Being Human (which I review on CliqueClack, by the way). On the show, he plays a twenty-something that has to deal with being a werewolf in the modern world. In Dylan Dog, he plays a twenty-something that has to deal with being a zombie in the modern world.

His characters just can’t catch a break, can they?
Dylan Dog is actually based on an old Italian comic series, but from what I’ve read, the movie isn’t keeping a lot in common with the source material. That’s usually a negative for me. My other apprehension is… well, this is just another movie about vampires, werewolves and zombies, isn’t it? Maybe it’s just because we already have Being Human, True Blood
and The Vampire Diaries
on television, but I’m getting kind of tired of these monster tropes being thrown at each other in the modern world. Hey, if the story ends up being good, it’ll be worth it, but I’m not 100% sure about this yet.
What do you guys think? Will a cast with the yumminess that is Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington and Taye Diggs be able to pull this off?
Seeing this movie trailer reminds me of a joint comic between Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith called, Criminal Macabre/Cal McDonald, that was done around the late 90s early 2000s. Basic premise of that book was a normal detective investigating cases that always tended towards the supernatural, the detective having a ghoul sidekick of sorts. Also I am reminded somewhat of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series of books (aka a detective of the supernatural who happens to be a wizard)
Either way the trailer shown LOOKS interesting but I get the feeling this is gonna be one more of those National Treasure-esque type movies (decent movie but ultimately forgettable)
Love your site man keep up the good work
