Sometimes, the internet is generous to this lowly blogger. I was just finishing up my cartoon column over on CliqueClack, and trying to figure out what I would write about next over here at Just Plain Something. I casually checked MuggleNet to see if there were any updates on Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 when I discovered the most epic, new scene-filled trailer yet had just been released hours ago. Yep, the internet giveth.
I’m telling you, there are so many new bits in this trailer, our wizard goblets runneth over with cinematic pumpkin juice right now. Check it out, Potter fans!
Once again, I’ve caught some of the best moments in screenshots. I’ve got stuff to say about the bits I didn’t get screenshots of, too, but let’s start with the pictures.
Well, we finally see it! Not exactly how I imagined it, but I can’t fault the filmmakers for that. It’s in a case, so I’m betting we’re going to see some Tom Riddle flashbacks in this one… with is good, considering we didn’t get enough in Half-Blood Prince!
Aw man, Petunia and Lilly (left and right, respectively). I’m just so glad these moments are being kept in the film. It’s one of my favorite parts of the book.
Tricksy film trailerses! See, with Voldemort’s voiceover, you think he’s walking over the dead in Hogwarts Castle. But then when you freeze frame it, you can see it’s actually Malfoy Manor, probably after Voldy realizes they let Harry slip through their fingers. He’s also walking to Draco, who I am sure is pissing his pants right at that moment.
Oh look, badass Hogwarts is being badass!
And badass Kingsley is also being badass. Kingsley for Minister of Magic ’97!
Man, I’m so glad we’re going to get to see this part. I mean, I get why it was taken out of the book… Harry couldn’t be everywhere at once in that night. It’s almost harder that he just get back to everyone and the losses are staggering. But this is going to be a good scene… a hard scene to watch, but a good scene.
We’ve actually already seen this bit, but the last time was so fast I couldn’t tell who that was. Well, turns out it is Ron. I think this is going to be a great moment for Rupert Grint. Another sad moment for the entire audience.
I’m not sure if I’m going to see it in 3D, but if I do, this will probably freak me the hell out. Even though I know it is coming, this will freak me the hell out.
Man, this screenshot does not do this scene justice. I think we can all just be happy that they’re keeping the scene in. We all loved it in the book and it’s going to rock in the movie. Just… badass.
See above.
This one is just for those of you begging for a sweet computer wallpaper. You’re welcome.
I have to give them props for using such a chilling and memorable monologue from the book in the trailer. Once of the great moments of the story is Voldemort addressing Hogwarts, and it works for the trailer. There was just so much new stuff in this video – one thing in particular that was just too blurry was Greyback getting stunned right out a window, but there was plenty more. Did you see Snape disparate like a gangsta? I did! I also have a weird suspicion that the guy on the broom shouting “Come on!” was Percy Weasley, but it went by too fast for me to tell. There was also a moment right before Mrs. Weasley being bad ass where a group of apparently Death Eaters just disinigrated into skeletons. I have no idea what that was about.
I know the one thing that worries me about the movie is that final duel with Harry and Voldemort, which is so different from the books. I hate that plunge we see Harry take with Voldy, but I love that he calls him “Tom.” Still, I have a feeling that’s the part of the book that will bother me when it comes down to watching the movie. But am I excited? Hell yes! Can’t wait until July!

I really dug this trailer, especially loved the one bit of CGI where you see the orange/yellow shield around Hogwarts, shattered bits here and there
In agreement with you about that roof scene though. I am not sure if I am gonna be ok with them changing the location like that for the final bit between Harry and Voldemort but, maybe it does ultimately end in the forest and that is just a bit of them fighting beforehand.
