Do you know anyone who dislikes the Muppets? I really can’t imagine anyone not liking them. I’m still a little nervous about this new movie, but I also really want it to be great. I think if we go into it realizing that it isn’t going to be exactly like the older movies (and that’s OK), then we’ll end up liking the film. At least the trailers hint at the kind of irreverent humor the older movies were famous for.
What kind of humor, you ask? How about mocking the franchise’s own sense of epicness. “The Xanadu of family entertainment,” indeed.
And don’t forget pointing out the ridiculous of these fake trailers within one of the fake trailers. “What are we hiding? Did we make the movie in Swedish or something?” Also, “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were reciting some sort of an important plot point!”
But now we have an actual trailer that is about the actual movie! And there are a few more hints at the sweetness that made the first few Muppet movies some of my childhood favorites.
“This is going to be a really short movie.” I literally squealed with delight when I heard the Mahna Mahna song on the Muppets’ car radio. Way to reference a classic skit, movie!
After I finished watching that last trailer, I sent straight to Netflix to see if any of the older Muppet movies are on instant right now (they aren’t, which makes me pretty darn sad). But I am getting more and more excited about this film, and there are still questions to answer. Who voices the new muppet? What is Chris Cooper’s sinister plan? And why is Rob the Robot hanging out with them?
I feel like nothing could be as good as the Muppets. Ever.
Also, Mahna Mahna? Turned into a song to support cancer patients here in NZ.
So there's that too, that they help cure cancer.
