Did you know moving is a pain in the ass? Because I do, which is why the site has been a little less updated in the last week or so. Essentially, in the last month my life has been 45% moving, 20% those things that keep me alive (like eating and sleeping and work) and 35% Batman. Yes, Batman. Between fangirling over Young Justice (even during the hiatus), writing the various reviews for Batman Month over on CartoonClack, rewatching Nolan’s other Batman movies and just absorbing as much as a I can about Dark Knight Rises without completely spoiling it for me … the Dark Knight of Gotham has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I finally sat down this weekend and just enjoyed some Community on the old DVR (finally set up), when what comes up on the commercials but maybe the best Dark Knight Rises ad yet. Watch and enjoy:
Do I even have to explain why this is awesome? We have Bruce Wayne going to an unassuming doctor (hi, Thomas Lennon) only to have the doctor absolutely horrified at the state of his body. Remember the 20+ hours you spent as Batman fighting crime in Arkham City? Yeah, it turns out being a unrelenting BAMF takes its toll on the body! I can only imagine what the doctor thinks he’s been doing. What I love about this is that the scene that intercuts with the doctor’s office is most likely after the doctor’s office visit. Yes, Bruce gets a physical, is told directly by his doctor that he isn’t fit to “heliski” and Bruce just goes, “Screw that, I’m going to go crush some kneecaps! Oh, and freefall a few stories without the Batsuit. I’m Bruce Wayne, bitches!”
How can you not love this character? How can you not love a man who knows his body is falling apart and still throws himself into the biggest riot in his city’s history? The sheer willpower of this man is his greatest aspect and also the reason he’s one of the most beloved superhero despite having no superpowers.
I’m just so very thrilled for Thursday. What’s your favorite bit of footage from the commercials?
