but that still intrigue me.
I try not to write two Off-Screen posts back-to-back, but this is a special day.
2. Today is a great excuse to act like a scurvy seadog; it is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Started innocently by best friends John Bahr and Mark Summers in 1995, the international celebration of all things buccaneer really took off when Dave Berry wrote about the holiday back in 2002. Since then, awesome people all over the globe have used Sept. 19 as a day to talk like swashbucklers of a time long past.
There are lots of ways to celebrate this pseudo-holiday. The most obvious is to literally talk like a pirate (go figure!). However, since Sept. 19 falls on a Sunday this year, I can understand if you don’t want to say “Blow me down!” in church.
A nice alternative is to blog, tweet or update your Facebook profile in pirate-speak. And if you feel like throwing an impromptu pirate party, we won’t stop you!
Some might ask, “Why would you want to talk like a pirate?” To them I answer, “Why the heck not, you landlubber!” Take the day to get acquainted with your peg-legged inner child. For more information (including more pirate vocabulary and games), visit www.talklikeapirate.com.
